The wait is over! We’re thrilled to announce that J.R. Rix & Sons have been nominated for not just one, but three awards at this year’s Yorkshire & Humberside Family Business Awards.
Being a family-run business is at the very core of our operation. Since 1873, when Sea Captain Robert Rix established the foundations of what would become J.R. Rix & Sons, right up to the present day, it has acted as a beacon of trust for our customers. We have seen generation after generation of the Rix family bring further growth to the business, strengthening our core values, and cementing our reputation in the industry.
Now, with the 6th generation of the Rix family Harry and Robert continuing their integration into the company alongside Tim Rix, Chairman of J.R. Rix & Sons, it’s more apparent than ever how far we have come as business over our 150-year history. With our clear vision ‘to create sustainable businesses for future generations’ remaining strong, and our people driven to achieve success.

This award covers businesses that keep our region moving through the transportation of goods and supplies to the Yorkshire area.
Rix has been delivering fuels, oils and other services to homes, farms, and businesses for nearly 100 years thanks to our multiple depot locations servicing regions across the UK.
Employee of the year - Rory Clarke
This award celebrates the amazing individuals, family, or non-family, who go above and beyond to reach their goals.
Recently, Rory has made the decision to bow out from his position as Managing Director of J.R. Rix & Sons, a post he has held since 2003. Rory is an excellent example of unaltered loyalty and passion and has inspired many here at Rix during his 32-year journey with us.
During Rory's time as MD of J.R. Rix& Sons, Rory has overseen and been instrumental in guiding the evolution of our traditional family business with roots in the shipping and ship-owning industry to become the diverse brand that Rix Group is known for today.
The award ceremony, which will take place on the 10th of November at the Majestic Hotel & Spa, Harrogate will play host to all the fantastic finalists, and celebrate their achievements as a family business. We wish everyone good luck, and we look forward to the event!
